Amaurornis moluccana. I posted a juvenile of this species some time ago and this is the adult in breeding colours showing the orange-red frontal shield and the buff/rufous vent and undertail. The bird is highly secretive and rarely seen in the open. The name means dark and shadowy bird from the Moluccas (part of Indonesia) where it was originally found
Buff-breasted Paradise-Kingfisher
Mt Lewis region, Atherton Tablelands. This kingfisher migrates from PNQ and builds its nest in a ground termite mound. The droppings from the chicks provide food for the termites. Both parents feed the chicks. This is the male on top of the termite mound with a morsel of food for the chicks
