Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher
Tanysiptera sylvia

Location- Mt Lewis FNQ
Notes- When I was in North Queensland in February, I spent some time photographing the migratory Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher. Typically, in February they are in the latter stages of feeding their babies. The parents usually return to PNG around now and the youngsters follow on about three weeks later.
They mainly nest in a nondescript terrestrial termite mound. Both parents feed the babies so they can be expected to appear briefly with some food every hour or so unless they are eating themselves in which case they could be gone for a few hours.
This image is of the male with a centipede for the babies. He is standing on top of the termite mound.
